Lauren’s Foundation, a Wyomissing-based nonprofit, presented $2,500 to Wyomissing Borough Council on Tuesday at the board’s meeting.
The donation was made to support children’s programs sponsored and run by the parks and recreation and police departments.
In the past, funds have been spent to bring Zoo America, clowns, mimes, magicians and other programs to borough parks, as well as initiatives promoting Halloween trick-or-treating and playground safety.
With Tuesday’s presentation, Lauren’s Foundation has donated more than $13,000 to the borough to support these programs over the last several years.
The foundation was created in memory of Lauren Fitzgerald, a Wyomissing graduate and attendee of Drexel University, who died in 2005 after a 14-month bout with brain cancer.
So far, the foundation has raised over $200,000.
The money provides scholarships for graduating high school seniors, aid for families struggling with the costs of caring for sick children, and funding for research into brain tumor causes and treatments.
One of the main fundraisers for the foundation is Fitzy’s 5K.
